According to the arresting officer, Cooper claimed before his death that Davis had threatened him during an argument. Cooper's wounds proved fatal and Davis was tried and executed for murder. George Smeeton [1780-1847] was one of the best-known London publishers of trial pamphlets and broadsides in the early nineteenth century. This is a rare broadside.
