[Chicago, Illinois]: [Marinello Summer School], 1918. Good to very good. Toned, minor edge wear. Large tear to one leaf (pp. 29-30) with approx. 1/4 leaf loss.. May 1918 issue of the Marinello Messenger. The Marinello Summer School was created to educate working women in such subjects as advertising, salesmanship, and skills essential to all cosmetic professions; here, examples include "Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Diseases", "Facial Treatments", "Hair Waving", "Hair Dyeing", and "Obesity Work" (i.e. weight loss). The issue includes several articles on the above subjects, as well as advertisements for cosmetic products and recent happenings in the school. Patriotism and doing one's part for the war effort appears to be a common theme throughout. Includes most charming illustrations of the students as elephants making their way to the school on the illustrated wrappers.

8vo (8.5" by 5.75"), pp. 48, stapled in original illustrated wrappers printed in black, red, and blue. Of particular note is the covers - featuring anthropomorphic female elephants flocking in droves being lead by an American flag carrying elephant from Chicago enroute to Marinello Summer School. Many with talk bubbles and a banner identifying their home towns. Reminiscent of Votes for Women rallies.
