By Edited by William J. Fryer
New York: The Record and Guide, 1886. Boards. Very Good +. A handsome, well-preserved example of the uncommon 1886 3rd printing. Hitchcock cites the 1885 1st edition (Hitchcock #476) but omits this one, which is the first to include a list of New York City architects (not in the first 2 editions) AND a set of "Laws Limiting the Height of Dwelling-Houses" (omitted in later editions). 6 of the illistrations in the text are highlighted in red, dozens of wonderful period ads (including engravings in some cases) at the front and rear. Tight and VG+ in its bevelled, dark-brown boards, with bright, completely unrubbed gilt-titling along the front panel. Very mild darkening to the lower panel edges, otherwise very sharp. Internally, very clean as well, with no writing or markings to speak of. Octavo, a nice piece of 19th centiury New York architectural and building history. Part I: Law Relating to Buildings in the City of New York; Part II: Law Limiting the Height of Dwelling Houses; and Part III: Mechanics' Lien Law for the City and State of New York 1885.
