New York Harbor, Ship Oceanic, No date. Very good. One page letter. [20 cm x 12 cm]. Some minor smudges, otherwise very good +. First line reads, "Your note just arrived. We are drifting out to the South...". Joaquin Miller was an American poet who wrote about the West in a characteristically brusk voice. Cementing his reputation as a frontiersmen, he became known as the "Poet of the Sierras". Before his death in 1913, he had been a horse thief, a mining cook, a politician, and a freebooter.
