By Fletcher, J.S.
New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Near Fine in Very Good dj. [1933] (c.1930). Reprint 2nd Printing (stated). Hardcover. [nice clean book with minor wear at the extremities, one-time owner's name plus date & place of purchase in ink at top of front endpaper; the jacket is lightly edgeworn, with a couple of tiny chips along the bottom edge, and has been internally reinforced with clear tape along several of the edges and folds]. When Sir Charles Stanmore dies from one of the rare poisons contained in the Borgia Cabinet, there are suspects galore: "His wife, who hated him, [and] owned the cabinet; his disinherited nephew [who] stood to gain by his sudden death; [and] his secretary, a malicious, contriving girl whose motives no one could fathom." This was the first of just two mysteries by this prolific author to feature the character of Detective-Sergeant Charlesworth of Scotland Yard. [The approximate date of this reprint has been established by checking the publication dates of an imcomplete list of the author's other books, contained in an advertisement in the back of this volume.] .
