Regency Hand-colored Valentine with Original Handwritten Verse

  • [France?] , 1810
By Etienne Cassagnon
[France?], 1810. Very good. Minor toning, dust soiling, one or two spots. Evidence of previous adhesive/minor short tears to lower leaf verso.. Regency-era Valentine with hand-colored etching of a lovely young lady holding a bouquet of flowers, above what appears to be an original handwritten sonnet: "Ne vous Affligez point sure votre infirmité / Ô beauté singulière! admirable Entrangère..." ("Do not grieve over your infirmity / O singular beauty! admirable Stranger..."). We have been unable to identify the poet or pseudonym "Etienne Cassagnon".

Bifolium (9.5" by 7.25") with hand-colored etching, decorative border. Small number "6" has been printed next to image.
