Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1868. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Second edition in book form. Front and end matter and edges foxed, Gratwick bookplate on front endpaper of each volume. 1868 Hard Cover. Complete in ten volumes. Dark green blind-stamped pebbled cloth, gilt titles and rules. Collected works of the University of Edinburgh professor of moral philosophy, who was friends with Thomas de Quincey, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey. The writings are a mix of literary and intellectual discussions, and often use pseudonyms representative of Wilson's contemporary (e.g., Wilson himself is Christopher North, and 'The Ettrick Shepherd' represents James Hogg). Wilson was a regular contributor to Blackwood Magazine, and while much of the content included here was originally printed there, the articles, colloquies, and essays have 'been revised and considerably remodelled' from the magazine versions. The ten volume set comprises three separate sets, which were originally released in book form between 1842 and 1856.
