Inscribed in English by the French Sagan on the ffe: "To Jane Putnam/ thanks for the party,/ and your welcome/ with very best wishes/ Francoise Sagan'. Signed copies of Sagan's book, particularly this her first book, are uncommon. The inscribee we believe to be a NY socialite to whom Sagan thanks for a party, perhaps on her publicity tour for this book, which was quite a sensation - Sagan's first novel at the age of 19 - with four printings in its first two months of publication, February-March 1955. Red cloth covers bit soiled as is the dustjacket which has some edgewear and is missing a pencil-eraser-tip sized piece head of spine.
