Handwritten 1849 Medical Receipt Book
- 1/4 leather
- York, PA , 1849
York, PA, 1849. 1/4 leather. Very Good -. The handwritten medical notebook of Dr. Francis Abram Kiesland Koch of York. PA, dated January 29, 1849. A graduate of Maryland University, Dr. Koch created this one-of-a-kind book offering a variety of medicines and homeopathic solutions to treat tooth pain, diarrhoera, hair loss, gout, and sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, crab-lice, and the clap. The occasional horse care and food recipe is also included. Eminently legible in the Doctor's elegant script. 12mo, bound in its original 1/4 calf over light-brown boards, which show forgiveable spotting and wear. The binding, while delicate (given its age), is still solid and firm. 12mo, just shy of 50 pgs. A nice piece of Americana and an impressive example of a 19th century collection of medical cures and treatments.
