Edinburgh: Archibald, Constable and Co.; Cadell and Co (1819-33), 1819. Early and first editions. Hardcover. Very Good +. 41 volumes, uniformly bound in full calf, mid 19thC. All volumes with the ownership name of Mary Ellen Lowell dated 1854, she being presumably a member of the Boston Brahmin Lowell clan. Volumes numbered I - XXV of this assembled set were published by Archibald Constable (Edinburgh) and various entities of Longman, Hurst Rees, Orme and Brown or Hurst Robinson and Co (London) fronm 1819 to 1824. Volume I is the third edition of Waverly; Volume XXV is Quentin Durand. Volume XXVI through Volume XLI were published by Cadell and Co (Edinburgh) and variously Longman, Reed, Orme, Brown and Green London) and Whittaker (London) from 1827 to 1833. Internally, these last 16 volumes are identified as Volumes I - XVI, and run from St. Ronanwell in Volume XXVI to an appendix with errata of The Surgeon's Daughter in Volume XLI. Tan, polished calf, gilt single-ruled covers, six compartmenst to spine, with gilt and red and black leather labels. Some labels variously chipped and edges moderately worn here and there. Internals quite nice throughout.
