American minister Vivian was a close friend and lieutenant of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., helped organize the first sit-ins in Nashville in 1960 and participated in the Freedom Rides. The McCarran Internal Security Act required Communist organizations to register with the federal government and was used as a tool of oppression throughout the Civil Rights struggle. Vivian here gives a wide-ranging and insightful analysis into its oppressive effects with examples principally throughout the South. No copies in retail as of June 2023 and only two separately cataloged holdings in OCLC.
