New York/Hollywood/London/Toronto: Samuel French. Very Good. (c.1948, 1945). First Edition. Softcover. [solid copy, with some browning to pages and uneven browning to front cover (see scanned image), slight bend at bottom right corner of front cover]. (3 B&W photographs, stage diagram) Melodrama about a woman in love with a doctor who helps to kill her husband (his patient); they find themselves suspected of the murder, and have to commit a second one in order to cover it up. The play had its initial Broadway run in the Spring and early Summer of 1947, running for a modest 61 performances. The photographs illustrating this edition, however, are from the original London production from the year before, and depict co-stars Diana Wynyard and Hugh Williams. It was adapted for the 1960 film of the same name (with Goff and Roberts supplying the screenplay), a Ross Hunter production for Universal, with Lana Turner and Anthony Quinn as the murderous couple. .
