Washington, 1858. 36 pp. Stitched. Minor chipping of top leaf, else good. 36 pp. After the death of Sen. Thomas H. Benton, Francis P. Blair and his son published various remarks they claimed Benton had made on his deathbed. William Carey Jones, Benton's faithful secretary who was actually present when Benton was dying, claimed that these assertions were false, and gives his version of what happened in this pamphlet. The Blairs seem to have tried to use the occasion to score off political enemies at the expense of Benton's posthumous reputation.
