London: Geoffrey Bles. Very Good+ in Near Fine dj. 1965. First Edition. Hardcover. [minor shelfwear, light foxing to top edge of text block, one-time owner's initials plus date & place of acquisition written in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath rear jacket flap); the jacket shows extremely light wear along top and bottom edges, faint age-toning to spine panel]. Set in north Wales (where the author lived), this murder mystery features his recurring character Sir Abercrombie Lewker, "the well-known actor-manager and amateur detective," and has to do with the mysterious death of an eccentric character who "purported to live by the Arts and to be above such things as conventional morality." A late entry in the Lewker series, this, like the others, has a mountain-climbing angle, reflecting the author's self-described lifelong recreation of mountaineering and rock-climbing. (He also wrote numerous book on those topics, usually under the name Showell Styles.) .
