By Edward Dana Durand
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1898. Cloth. Near Fine. The 1898 1st edition of this uncommon examination of the financial history of New York City. From Part I ("History of the Finances to 1871") through Part II "(Present Working of the Financial System"), this is a detailed look at the complex weave of financial machinations that made up New York's economic engine from roughly the mid 17th century up to the end of the 19th century. A surprisingly well-preserved copy to boot. Clean and Near Fine in its light-brown cloth, with bright gilt-titling along the spine. Just a touch of very light scuffing to the panels, internally very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. A dozen or so tables and diagrams complementing Edward Durand's text, a number of the signatures uncut.
