By Robert Callis Esq
London: William Leak, 1647. Full calf. Very Good +. Bound in an elegant, early 20th century full dark-calf, with 5 raised bands and bright-gilt leather title-label along the spine. Offsetting at the new pastedowns and endsheets, the original title page (lacking 15% along its bottom-edge and 5% along its top-edge) has had tasteful, professional repair work to make it whole again. Internally, very impressive, with the original pages (Robert Callis's original text) uniformly bright, clean and crisp. Thanks to re-strengthened headbands, the binding is strong and very solid. An important text in mid 17th century urban engineering, this octavo copy of the 1647 1st edition is well-preserved and very presentable, meriting a VG+.
