Contains the first appearance of Walt Whitman's poem "Proud Music of the Sea-Storm" (pp. 199-203), which would later be reprinted in Passage to India, and the first appearance of Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Tribute of a Loving Friend to the Memory of a Noble Woman," a eulogy for the Duchess of Devonshire (pp. 242-250).
