Small folio; in the publisher's brown embossed cloth, worn and dampstained; [44] pages; [2], 38 leaves of plates; with added chromolithographic title page and frontispiece; the other plates are numbered 1-38, each explanatory text on a facing page; all the plates are signed L. N. Rosenthal and Robert Riddell; an errata slip is attached to page [44]; there are 40 plates in total including the chromolithographic title and frontispiece; a number of leaves have minor rippling, and several at the end of the book have stains to the leading edges, none affecting the printing; there are two penned previous owner names, one on the printed title page; almost all pages have a contemporary namestamp ("R. S. Beetley") on the verso.~~The two chromolithographic plates printed by L. N. Rosenthal of Philadelphia are views of elaborate stairs are noteworthy. The other plates are designs for newels, brackets, ballisters and the like. ~~This is the first edition of Robert Riddell's first book. Good binding.
