A classic of juvenile psychology by Princess Marie Bonaparte (1882-1962), the prominent French psychologist, popularizer of psychoanalysis, disciple and patron of Sigmund Freud, amongst a wealth of other things; she negotiated with the Nazis to allow Jews to leave Vienna, and she avidly delved into psychosexuality primarily as a therapeutic measure to deal with her own chequered and erratic sexual history. This collection of "Five Copy Books" includes the facsimiles of her own notebooks as a child, illustrating and attempting to interpret the root causes of the various traumas and neuroses that arose later in her life.

Described as a generous and caring woman by the people who knew her (she was generally refered to as "Princess", both as an indication of her actual rank, and as a pet name), her romantic and interpersonal relationships were all frought with confusion, desire, and contradictory impulses that she spent her life trying to understand. A fascinating artefact of self awareness, and a deft and insightful illustration of the inner struggles that plague every level of human society. Scarce thus.
