Transcript of a debate that took place at Chicago's Garrick Theater in 1910, with Darrow taking the affirmative, that evil should not be answered with evil, an argument he applies to modern jurisprudence and the death penalty in particular. The text was originally printed by the Workers University Society in Chicago (1910); this undated reprint is in Haldeman-Julius' "Big Blue Book" series which, in keeping with the publisher's haphazard approach to bibliographical matters, was comprised of books that were not particularly big, and often not blue.
