In 1841, while attempting to free the slaves of a R.N. Woolfolk, abolitionists George Thompson, James E. Burr, and Alanson Work were arrested, charged for grand larceny, and sentenced to hard labor. Of the three men, Thompson would serve the longest, released after five years. (Thompson is not to be confused with the British abolitionist and MP of the same name.) LCP AFRO-AMERICANA 10221.
