Exhibition of Paintings by Salvador Dali
- Single sheet
- New York: Julien Levy Gallery, 1933
New York: Julien Levy Gallery, 1933. Single sheet. Very Good. A wonderful piece of Surrealist ephemera and one of the great early Julien Levy catalogues. The scarce, historic November-December 1933 catalogue/announcement of Salvador Dali's first solo exhibition in America. 26 listed paintings, followed by a Dali essay and 2 Dali illustrations. All on a single purple sheet folded into thirds. Light creasing at all 3 panels renders this copy a VG to VG+ rather than a Near Fine but, happily, the fragile catalogue remains bright and very presentable. This copy also boasts superb provenance, having come directly from the family of artist --and Julien Levy patron-- Joseph Cornell and, before that, from his house itself, famously on Utopia Parkway in Flushing, Queens (New York).
