Published on the occasion of the exhibition held from May 12, 2022 to April 16, 2023 at the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL) in Mexico Cty. A tour of one of the most recurrent themes in art: food, from pre-Hispanic times to contemporary art, through artistic techniques is testimony to the changes in ingredients and life: from the milpa to processed food; from fonditas to the times of pizzas of the “Perro Negro”, the frappuccinos of Starbucks and the supermarkets; from public spaces to the intimacy of kitchens. Through the works from 70 private and institutional collections, presented in the temporary exhibition halls, the richness of the complex and varied Mexican gastronomy, considered among the five most prestigious in the world, is reaffirmed, and the enhancement of its artistic representation through the centuries.
