London: Frederick Warne and Co. Decorative Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. First Edition. Beautiful 19th century British children's book, c. 1880s. With 24 sumptuous, hand-colored illustrations. A well-preserved, VG to VG+ copy in its original dark-green cloth. Wonderful gilt-design of dancing children to front panel and gilt-lettering to spine. Very light fraying to spine ends. Illustrations "printed in colours by Kronheim". Binding a bit tender (front and back hinges slightly shaken) but for the most part quite sturdy. Internally immaculate as well. Quarto, unpaginated. Tale consists of 4 separate chapters: Dame Trot and Her Cat; Good Children; Bruin the Bear; and Home for the Holidays. A wonderful example of the early application of handcoloring to children's books.
