Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 1877. Very good. Minor toning, letter creases to certificate;. An 1877 provisional certificate inscribed in ink for Annie Hissler of Lancaster Pennsylvania, signed by the Superintendent of the district's schools, B.F. Shaub. It certifies that the newly qualified teacher "is a person of good moral character, and has passed an examination" in the subjects of orthography, reading, writing, mental arithmetic, written arithmetic, geography, grammar, U.S. History, Theory of Teaching, and Practice of Teaching. Offered together with a Pennsylvania Dutch report book for who is presumably one her of students, James Collins; each leaf of the report book evaluates the student's Application, Attention, Conduct, Discipline, and Attendance-- with German translations for each word. This copy appears to have been briefly used, with a few of the leaves sometime detached, and the remaining leaves left blank.
Certificate measures 5" by 8". Oblong report book measures 4" by 5.25", approx. 50 leaves bound in original cloth with printed paper label to upper cover.
