The white ink stamped title on the spine has faded, the extremities are moderately rubbed, and the front free endpaper has two previous owners' names in pen. The text block is cracked at p. 217, but remains very sturdy. A vintage hardcover edition of Sinclair's ode to the working poor. Sinclair's work was an instant bestseller, and is responsible for the Pure Food & Drug Act.
