A stark visual reminder of the dangers pneumonia and other pulmonary disease pose to the general public, published by the State Department of Maryland as a public health warning: "Pneumonia, Bronchitis and Influenza are at present responsible for 14 per cent of all deaths in Maryland". The image shows "the demon Pneumonia" with a hammer, nailing the following causes of the disease into the coffin of "Y.B.
