[In Dutch] "Jacob Israël de Haan (31 December 1881 – 30 June 1924) was a Dutch Jewish literary writer, lawyer and journalist who immigrated to Palestine in 1919, and was assassinated in Jerusalem in 1924 by the Zionist paramilitary organization Haganah for his anti-Zionist political activities." (Wikipedia) His early works included a homo-erotic novel (1904) and a study on political prisoners in Russia (1913), for whom he worked to pressure Russia to improve their conditions. He emigrated to Palestine in 1919, the same year as the publication of this poem. He was initally a Zionist but converted to anti-Zionist views. This publication appears to be a first edition, and is very scarce in the United States. Octavo. Brown papers wrappers with title in black to front panel. Wrappers are worn and slightly damaged on all edges. Wrapper on spine is split, with small chips at top and bottom. Text is bright with minor browning to margins and endpapers. Small spots of soiling and finger smudges on some pages, but clean overall. 39 pages. POE/011124.
