In 1929, when the University became autonomous, the concept of extension of culture was incorporated into the university mission, and the University created various agencies and dependencies with the purpose of extending university cultural heritage to Mexican society. The then rector Ignacio García Téllez supported the foundation of the Center for Social Action of University Students - whose headquarters was under the directorship ofSalvador Azuela until 1938 -, on which various cultural outreach centers depended. The creation of the Universidad de México magazine dates back to this period. Contains many important articles by and about emerging artists and writers. Published T. 1, no. 1 (feb. 1936)-t. 5, núm. 29 (jun. 1938). No. 24-29 includes a separately numbered section with title Cuadernos de arte. no. 1-6, each also with a distinctive title./ Supersedes Universidad de México, issued 1930-33; superseded by Universidad de México, issued 1946-59.
