By Zalce, Alfredo
1941. two color lithograph. Prig. 49. Many of the artists of the Taller were members of the Communist party, but their support of the Soviets diminished or disappeared when Hitler and Stalin signed the Nazi-Soviet Pact in August 1939. After Hitler invaded Russia on June 22, 1941, however, and the Soviet Union joined the war against Germany and its allies, artists like Alfredo Zalce enthusiastically produced bold posters such as this one declaring that the U.S.S.R. was defending the liberty of the world.
