Quarto; in the publisher's quarter black cloth over gray cloth, with decoration in gilt and titling in gilt to the spine; [18]. 19-408 pages, including the Index; illustrated with black and white photographic portraits, interiors of the Library at Laburnum, and the like; this copy signed by John Stewart Bryan with a personal inscription to George J. Seay; Mr. Seay was responsible for Richmond becoming a site for a regional Reserve Bank, and was the first chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond from 1916 to 1936.~~A scarce and sought after memoir of one Richmond's great leaders, penned by his son "for the children and grandchildren of Joseph Bryan". Born in Gloucester, Bryan served in the Confederate Armed Forces with the Richmond Howitzers and Mosby's Rangers. He became a most prominent industrialist and newspaper publisher, and at his death owned both the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Richmond News-Leader. Limited to 400 copies, this being #298.
