A small James Norman Hall/"Mutiny on the Bounty: collection consisting of 8 items: a copy of "Mutiny on the Bounty" signed by both Hall and Nordhoff in January 1933, three typed poems by Hall, two photographs of Hall taken in Tahiti in the 1930's, and two copies of Hall's posthumous book "Her Daddy's Best Ice Cream", the original 1952 edition and the 2003 reprint signed by Nancy Ella Hall. $3,500 1) A copy of "Mutiny on the Bounty, first edition, second state with decorated end papers in good condition, lacking the dustjacket, with a tipped in inscription "with cordial regards to the skippers friends John and Helen Bunker", signed by both Hall and Nordhoff and dated January 27, 1933. This may be John W. M. Bunker who was a biology professor at MIT consistent with the book was sourced in Gloucester, MA. 2) A typescript of a poem with ink corrections entitled: "Paeon of Gratitude to Nancy Ella Hall", who, upon being asked what kind of ice cream she liked best, replied: "My daddy is my best ice cream". Every year Hall wrote a poem for his daughter's birthday. These poems were published posthumously in 1952 and reprinted in 2003 in a book entitled Her Daddy's Best Ice cream. The Paeon was written in August 1936 and provides the title for the collection of poems. 3) A typed erratum to the Paeon by James Norman Hall, First Duck Lake Edition correcting taste to state in the ninth verse with a note "This is an example of what has frequently hppened (sic) to the classics when they get into the hands of careless scriveners." 4) A 2003 copy of "Her Daddy's Best Ice Cream" signed by Nancy Ella Hall containing the above poem. 5) A 1952 copy of "Her Daddy's Best Ice Cream" (book that you ordered on March 30) 6) A typed poem with ink corrections entitled: Off Again, On Again A Ballad commemorating the Disappearance From and Reappearance on a Certain List of Books of H. M. S. Bounty. The list may be the best seller list and there may have been a resurgence of interest in the book after the 1935 movie. There is a copy of the poem in the Edward Weeks papers at the Harry Ransom Center in Texas. Weeks was the book's editor at Atlantic Little Brown. 7, 8) Two photos taken in Tahiti in the 1930's. One of the photos is of James Norman Hall and Harrison Smith, founder of the Tahiti Botanical Garden with a copy of the NYT, a coconut and a bottle of beer/liquor. The other photo is of Smith, Hall and Hall's daughter Nancy.
