Small folio (13"x 9"), illustration, in color, No 23, Description page included. Normal aging and browning, margins trimmed a bit, but not affecting image or text; otherwise very good plus. Vanity Fair was founded by Thomas Gibson Bowles (AKA Jehu Junior) in 1868. The first issue appeared in 1869, and this magazine would continue through 1913. Bowles wrote much of the humorous and racy commentary in the early years. Despite presenting humorous caricatures of people, along with gossip about them, most people seemed to be flattered to be selected to be in Vanity Fair. Yjis illustration is of Sir James Stansfeld (1820-1898) who was Financial Sectretary when this picture was published. He was known as a radical and liberal politician.
