The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories

By Ernest Hemingway
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1938. Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good +. A markedly brighter copy of the 1938 true 1st edition than one usually encounters. Solid, tight and VG+ (with its customary darkening along the inner hinges and pastedowns) in a crisp, price-intact ($2.75), VG+ dustjacket, with light chipping at the spine crown and 3 pieces of tape neatly --and inconspicuously-- applied to the inside of the dustjacket as reinforcement. Thick octavo, Hemingway's first complete short story collection up to this point. A well-preserved, very presentable copy.
