By David Lance Goines
Boston: David Godine, 1982. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good +. The uncommon 1982 1st edition of this "synopsis of the geometric logic underlying" the construction of the Roman and Greek capitals, the Arabic numerals, the ampersand, etc. Written by David Lance Goines (1945-2023), the renowned calligrapher, graphic artist and printer, linked inextricably to Chez Panisse, the internationally famous restaurant in Berkeley, CA, many of whose elegant posters, menus and announcements were conceived and executed by Goines himself. An impressive copy of the book to boot. Tight and Near Fine (just a touch of occasional foxing) in a crisp, VG+ dustjacket, with mild fading along the spine and one or two tiny chips along the top-edges. Tall quarto, lavishly illustrated throughout in all its various geometric patterns.
