  • London: F. V. White & Co, 1898
By George Griffith
London: F. V. White & Co, 1898. Very Good. London: F. V. White & Co., 1898. First Edition. Octavo (19.2 cm); viii, 312pp. Illustrated frontispiece. Green cloth covered boards with black, orange, and gilt on stamped pictorial front cover, gilt stamping on spine, and black stamping of publisher’s emblem on back cover. Corners and margin of front cover bumped with some corners fraying; back cover corners frayed and bumped. Spine head and tail bumped, as well as faded and slightly soiled, but legible and intact. Some foxing to the pasted endsheets on both covers, but all other pages are clean. Gutter cracked at pages 48-49, 64-65, 176-177, and 256-257. Binding is only slightly shaky because of this, otherwise fairly firm.

A Victorian science fiction novel involving family secrets, the high-seas, pirates, and a magnet for gold.
