Sermon listing the "afflictions of the gospels" in the United States, the fifth being "the resentment of pretended patriots, when we oppose their views in endeavouring to serve our country." The accompanying footnote to this statement maintains that "Had this discourse been delivered twenty or twenty-five years ago, it might have been conjectured that the politicians here meant were tories, and under British influence! The same language is now held by some who think themselves the best friends of America!" (p 15).
