Boston, Massachusetts, 1873. Very good to near-fine. Some sunning and chips to extremities.. The May 1873 issue of "Life and Light for Woman", a monthly journal published by the Woman's Boards of Missions in cooperation with the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Featuring an all-female editorial board, the journal often included news from female missions abroad, with a brief children's section in the rear devoted to teaching young girls the importance of religion and missionary work through story and play. This issue includes articles on missions in Turkey, China, Ceylon, and Africa. The children's section includes an acrostic puzzle, and a report on how African people travel, to teach children international awareness and tolerance. There is also a brief description of the Hindu festival Nag Pauchmi, which the author describes as "The Hindu Christmas" to make it more relatable to Western children. Single vol. (8" by 5.25"), pp. 129-160, illus., in original printed light purple wrappers.
