Based on the 1870 novel by Jules Verne. In 1868, off the coast of San Francisco, three men set sail upon an armed frigate to investigate a spate of ship sinkings, rumored to be caused by a sea monster.

One of the most expensive and ambitious productions of its time, and Disney's first CinemaScope motion picture, the film was a resounding success and went on to be considered one of greatest live-action adventure movies ever made. Nominated for three Academy Awards, winning two for Art Direction and Special Effects.

Shot on location in California, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
