By Hanchett, Sibyl Croly
New York: Robert Speller Publishing Corp.. Very Good. (c.1937). First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [top inch or so of the half-title page has been torn out, but otherwise a good sound book with light shelfwear, very slight bumping to top rear corner, slight fading to spine cloth]. Novel about a 40-year-old farm wife who is unwillingly childless, but finds some fulfillment when she's asked to take over the head teaching job in the village school. One contemporary reviewer tried hard to forge a link between this book and the work of Willa Cather (in particular "A Lost Lady"), but has to admit that the novel "falls short of its more Illustrious example but it serves for a pleasant little story." Apparently this was the author's only published book. .
