New York: Edward J. Clode. Very Good. (c.1913). First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [modestly shelfworn, gilt lettering on spine and front cover fairly bright and easily readable, front hinge a little weak, large label on front pastedown stating the "Rules Governing the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association Library," whose stamp and call number appear on the front endpaper; it's also stamped on the title page]. (B&W photographs) The title page declares this to be "a novelization from the play and the stories appearing in The Ladies' World," but it was also issued as a 12-part motion picture serial by the Edison Company in 1912. The book is sort of a hybrid, acknowledging the existence of both the play and the movie serial by way of bound-in photographic illustrations: the first two photos are portrait shots of Olive Wyndham (who played Mary on stage) and Mary Fuller (who played her on screen), and of the six additional stills, some appear to be from the stage version and some from the films. (It doesn't help that the two actresses looked very much alike.) .
