By Trollope, Anthony
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1875. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. This is the first American edition of Trollope's novel, published in the United States the same year as the first edition in England. It is one of Trollope's later novels, and is considered by many as his great masterpiece. It is his longest novel, and was inspired by the British financial scandals of the early 19870s. It depicts how greed and dishonesty pervaded the commercial, political, moral and intellectual life of that era. Bound in publisher's original green cloth with gilt titling to spine. Light fraying to spine ends and edges and bumping to corners. Slight signs of wear to cloth. Some wear along hinges. Interior pages clean and bright. Extensively illustrated by "LGF," attributed to Lionel Grimshaw Fawkes. A nice copy in very good condition. Size: 6 x 9.25 inches. 408 pages plus 8 pages of publisher ads. LIT/061824.
