Tremendous association on this title song from Rodgers and Hart's 1938 musical comedy, I Married an Angel. This copy comes from the estate of Vera Zorina, (Born Eva Brigitta Hartwig, 1917-2003), who played the lead of "Angel" in the production opposite Dennis King as "Willi," who sings the song. The music is warmly inscribed by Rodgers "For Angel's sweet mama, in friendship," on the front cover.
The production opened at the Shubert Theatre and ran for 338 performances between 1938 and 1939. It served as one of her early, major stage roles, her stardom being fueled over the next decade by appearances in several films choreographed by her then-husband, George Balanchine.
A wonderful piece of Broadway Musical memorabilia. .
