Philadelphia: Printed by T.K. and P.G. Collins, 1855. Hardcover. Good. 16pp. Elephant folio [70 cm] Publisher's quarter leather over tan printed boards. Overall discoloring and age toning to boards. Rubbing to the extremities (more so to the backstrip and rear board). Some subtle dampstaining to the boards and the edges of the large plate, which is present at the rear. Plate is titled 'Sauropus Primaevus, Lea. with ripple marks and rain drop pits' At the time that Lea named 'Sauropus Primaevus' they were the then oldest vertebrate footprints reported. An uncommon work by the geologist and businessmen.
