Sexto, [18], 154 leaves, including engraved title page and 42 engraved full-page plates, one of which is a modern reproduction of the now-absent original. Bound in full early vellum, rebacked, with remains of original spine preserved. Vellum yellowed and stained, with light rubbing to edges and corners of boards and several scrapes to rear board. Ex-library copy with library bookplate bearing withdrawn stamp to front pastedown; library stamp to lower margin of title page and withdrawn stamp to lower margin of first page of text. Ink ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper and to title page. Text block lightly age toned with light plus foxing and scattered staining.
KL Consignment. Shelved case 3. Juan Valverde de Amusco (c. 1525-?) was born in Spain, but studied medicine in Padua and Rome. His magnum opus, 'Historia de la composicion del cuerpo humano,' was first published in Spanish by a Roman printer in 1556. The first edition in Italian was published four years later. All but four of the plates in Valverde's work were nearly copied from Vesalius's 'De humani corporis fabrica', though Valverde did make some corrections to Vesalius's work. 1383031.
