Black Sects and Cults; The Power Axis in an Ethnic Ethic

  • New York: Doubleday & Co, 1972
By WASHINGTON, Joseph R. Jr.
New York: Doubleday & Co, 1972. First Edition. Octavo. 21.5cm. Publisher's terracotta cloth titled in black to spine. Dustjacket. 176pp. Light bumping to spine ends, and a little wear to the corners, clean and bright in a pictorial dustjacket with some soiling to the lighter portions and some light, inoffensive wear to extremities. A very good copy of a book which, being mainly white, has a tendency to look a little scruffy. Internally clean. Fore-edge untrimmed. The main thrust of the book, albeit from a 50 year old socio-political perspective, is that despite the disparate and often discordant appearance of the USA's African American religious landscape, there is in fact an intrinsic unifying ethic that strives beneath, towards equality and social improvement.
