A lovely example of this 1826 collection of Shakespeare's dramatic works, complete in 10 vols. and bound in a late 19th century 3/4 chocolate-brown morocco by the great Zaehnsdorf Bindery of London. Beautiful gilt-tooling and design within the compartments, 5 raised bands along each spine. Highly-decorative former owner bookplates (The McGinley family of Wilton, Connecticut) along each front pastedown and facing front free endpaper. Uniform 16mos, very handsome wood engravings throughout by pre-eminent British wood-engraver John Thompson (1785-1866). Continuing frm the title page: "With Notes Original and Selected, by Samuel Weller Singer, F.S.A. and A Life of the Poet, by Charles Symmons, D.D.". AND, on the preceding half-title, "With Sixty Engravings on Wood, by John Thompson; From Drawings by Stothard, Corbould, Harvey, Etc.").
