[Photograph]: Military officers standing on a huge Coastal artillery gun

New York: Smedley, 1880. Unbound. Good. Albumen photograph. Image size 7.75" x 4.5" on a 11.75" x 9" thick card mount. Photographer's name in the negative ("Smedley, New York") on lower right side. Corners of the mount are rounded, some soiling on the image, a good or better example of a striking image of nearly 40 military men standing on the barrel a huge coastal artillery gun, possibly a 15" Rodman Gun, which was coming into use at the time. The uniformed men pose jauntily along the top of the barrel of the fearsome instrument of war.
