United States: United States Air Force, 1954. Very good. Lower wrapper sunned.. A 1950s booklet promoting careers in the Air Force, contrasting a career in service with life as a civilian. Features an interesting image on the front of a scale with two civilians on the left side and two service members on the right. Urges readers to "weigh" the opportunities in service, ranging from seniority and career promotion to financial security, against dubious alternatives in other careers. Most interesting are two openings, one showing an Airman and Airman's Wife, and the other showing a civilian and civilian's wife. The first couple is happy, financially secure, and fulfilled; the civilian and his wife are unhappy, limited in travel, and have limited savings. Published for men, with a token note for women on the very last page titled a "Closing word to the Ladies": "You, too, can be the judge! Although this book was primarily intended for the men in our audience, much of its material also applies to you" (p.16). It does not allude to any kind of equal pay or advancement for women. Single vol. (7.5" by 5.5"), pp. 16, illus., in original illus. wrps. Ink stamps of recruitment officer Sgt. Richard J. Esslinger on upper and lower covers.
