By Jacques Barozzio de Vignole
Paris: Chez Nicolas Bonnart, 1665. Full leather. Very Good. Jacques Barozzio de Vignole. Handsome 1665 edition of this monumentally important 16th century (originally 1552) textbook in architecture. In a contemporary-to-the-period, full dark leather, with 7 raised bands (decorative gilt-tooling within each compartment) and title label along the spine. Forgiveable wear, with some scuffing and abrading at the panels, and a bit of chipping and loss along the spine ends. Folio, 51 of Vignole's legendary engraved plates (#s 43-51 hand-numbered). Internally, light foxing and offsetting to the pastedowns and endsheets, neat former owner inscription (20th century) at the front free endpaper. Jacques Barozzi da Vignole (1507-1573), often simply called Vignola, was considered one of the great Italian architects of 16th century Mannerism.
